Do we need to close the school?
You shouldn't close the school during the wider period of mourning. The period of mourning started on 8 September and will last until 19 September, the day of the state funeral.
19 September will be a bank holiday. The DfE doesn't expect schools to open on that date. Your school should treat this the same as any other bank holiday.
This is set out in guidance for schools about the national mourning period.
Use our template letter to parents to communicate your school's closure on 19 September.
What code do we use in the attendance register for the bank holiday?
Use the administration Code #: Planned whole or partial school closure.
Do we need to teach an extra day later in the year to make up for the bank holiday?
The DfE says it will reduce the minimum number of sessions for this
