Who's eligible?
Your school will receive £2,530 for each pupil in reception to year 11 who was recorded on the October 2022 census as no longer looked after by a local authority (LA) or other state care because of:
- Adoption
- A special guardianship order
- A child arrangements order (previously known as a residence order)
From April 2023, this includes pupils adopted from state care from outside England and Wales.
These pupils are collectively referred to as previously looked-after children (previously LAC, post LAC or PLAC). The funding (together with funding for looked-after children) is referred to as 'pupil premium plus' funding.
In pupil referral units (PRUs) and alternative provision (AP) academies, this will include previously LAC recorded in the January 2023 census.
This is set out in section 3.3 of the 2023-24 technical note.
Pupils won't attract pupil premium funding under the category of children adopted from LA care if
