See what you might cover in your design and technology (D&T) risk assessments with these examples from a primary school and a local authority.

Examples from a school

St Thomas of Canterbury RC Primary School has 11 risk assessments each covering a different tool used in design and technology (D&T), such as craft knives and fabric scissors.

Each risk assessment sets out control measures to mitigate the risk of the specific hazard.

You can access all of the risk assessments from the D&T page on the school's website

Example from an LA

Bracknell Forest Council produced a document on art and D&T for its schools, which includes a risk assessment on pages 6-8.

It identifies different hazards, and for each gives space to note:

  • Who/what may be harmed
  • The control measures already in place
  • The severity of the risk
  • Further actions to take and when they will be completed

You can find the document as part of section 3 of the council's health and safety manual for its schools. It's called "Art, design and technology".
