Use this to assess the risk and put appropriate measures in place in classrooms across your school.

This assessment is intended for standard teaching classrooms conducting normal teaching and learning activities. Have separate assessments when it comes to specialist classrooms (e.g. sports facilities, laboratories) or certain activities (e.g. science experiments).

Complete a checklist regularly

The HSE has produced a health and safety checklist for individual classrooms, which you can download here.

You can adapt the checklist with the outcomes of your risk assessment, adding any identified control measures to the 'additional issues' section.

Get a staff member, such as a teacher or department head, to complete the checklist regularly. This will help ensure the measures in your risk assessment are being applied in individual classrooms.

If staff notice unaddressed risks as they complete the checklist, review your risk assessment.
