You must check that contractors:

  • Who are engaging in regulated activity at your school have undergone an enhanced DBS check with barred list information
  • Who are not in regulated activity, but whose work at your school provides them with an opportunity for regular contact with children, have undergone an enhanced DBS check (without barred list information)

Where you engage a self-employed contractor who will work in relevant childcare provision or be directly concerned with its management (for example, a music teacher or sports coach), you must carry out checks to ensure they're not disqualified under the 2018 Childcare Disqualification Regulations.

Always check the identity of contractors and their staff on arrival at your school (you need to meet this expectation unless you have very good reason not to).
