Key Stage (KS) 1 assessments are no longer statutory. There's no requirement to use them, or to report results to parents/carers or local authorities (LAs) if you do. They also won't be used for school accountability.
This article is based on the Standards and Testing Agency (STA)’s guidance on optional KS1 tests, access arrangements and assessment and reporting arrangements.
What are access arrangements?
They're adjustments you can make to support specific pupils during the optional KS1 National Curriculum tests (KS1 SATs).
The tests are designed so that most pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) can participate using the standard versions, but a small number may need additional arrangements.
The support given shouldn't change the test questions, and the answers should be the pupil’s own.
You don't need to make applications or notifications for access arrangements in the optional KS1 tests.
Any support should be based on normal classroom practice.
