Classroom displays: effective practice
What makes an effective classroom display? We look at what to include in classroom and whole-school displays in a variety of school settings. We also include guidance on Ofsted's consideration of displays, tips on building displays and examples of displays from schools.
Developing effective displays
We contacted one of our associate education experts, Bernard Abrahams, for advice on how schools can develop effective classroom and whole-school displays.
Bernard said that classroom displays should be developed in collaboration with pupils and teachers, and that, ideally, they should be updated at least every half-term.
He explained that the purpose of classroom displays is to support learning with helpful reminders and subject-specific content, as well as showcasing pupils' outstanding work.
Bernard noted that some of the most effective classroom displays he has seen are those with explicit links to the curriculum and drew in visitors to investigate the material more closely.
