First step to supporting pupils with SEND is high-quality teaching

High-quality teaching that is differentiated and personalised will meet the individual needs of the majority of pupils.

Additional interventions and support can't compensate for a lack of good quality teaching.

Therefore, you need to regularly review high-quality teaching in your school, and make sure teachers are familiar with the strategies they need to support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

This is explained in the Special Educational Needs and and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice, on pages 25 and 99.

Understand the key elements of high-quality teaching

Ofsted describes high-quality teaching, focused on the curriculum, in sections 212 and 214 of the School Inspection Handbook, which describes the quality of education judgement.
