Make sure assessment is inclusive

This involves being alert to the diversity of children's interests, and making sure that every child is able to demonstrate their attainment.

For example, children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) may do this in a different way to their peers, perhaps using eye pointing, symbols or signs. Remember that a child can use their established or preferred mode of communication for all of the early learning goals (ELGs) except ‘speaking’.

Make sure that children with English as an additional language (EAL) have opportunities to engage with activities in the security of their home language. All ELGs except communication and language, and literacy, can be assessed in the context of any language.
