Reception baseline assessment

You must administer the reception baseline assessment (RBA) to all new reception pupils in maintained schools and academies. Find out how it works so you're prepared to carry it out.

What should you do to prepare?

By Friday 16 June 2023, complete the RBA confirmation form that you received via email.

Your details will have been removed from your Baseline ePortal (BeP) at the end of the 2022/23 academic year, and new log-in details will be sent by the start of the autumn term.

You should use the same materials that you stored securely from last year's assessment. You will not automatically receive new materials, unless it's your school's first ever RBA. 

Call the RBA helpline on 0330 088 4171 if you have any issues with materials.

You should not use the RBA framework to guide teaching and learning. Use the EYFS framework and non-statutory Development Matters curriculum instead.
