Research into raising achievement (secondary)
Is there research on raising achievement in secondary schools? We refer to research on effective strategies to raise achievement, and look at factors that influence achievement. You will also find information about The Key’s CPD Toolkit, including a module on raising achievement.
The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) has produced an evidence-based teaching and learning toolkit for schools. It covers strategies to raise achievement, each summarised in terms of average impact on attainment, the strength of supporting evidence and cost.
The toolkit is not specific to secondary schools, but many of the strategies included in it are useful for all pupils.
According to the toolkit, the most effective feedback strategies are feedback, and meta-cognition and self-regulation. These strategies can add up to eight months’ additional progress over the course of an academic year.
