Pupil premium action plan and provision map templates
Use our action plan and provision map templates to help you plan your pupil premium provision, demonstrate effective use of your funding, and comply with your requirement to show that your spending decisions are based on research evidence.
You must show the evidence basis for your pupil premium spending
From September 2021, you must demonstrate that your pupil premium spending strategy is informed by research evidence, referring to a range of sources, including the toolkit published by the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF).
Activities should include those that:
- Support the quality of teaching, such as staff CPD
- Provide targeted academic support, such as tutoring
- Tackle non-academic barriers to success in school, such as attendance, behaviour, and social and emotional support
Set objectives for the year with our action plan
How to use it
Use the action plan to:
- Review your spending from the previous academic year - summarise the objectives that you set and the impact of spending on eligible pupils
- Set your objectives for the current year and the actions for achieving them. Make sure you set clear success criteria and timescales for each action so that you and your governing board can monitor progress over the year

Examples from schools
- Harehills Primary School in West Yorkshire sets out in its pupil premium action plan the desired outcomes to lessen the gap between pupils eligible for pupil premium and other pupils, and outlines associated actions
- George Abbot School in Surrey outlines in its action plan for disadvantaged students 7 areas for development: monitoring and tracking, teaching and learning, curriculum and inclusion, interventions, engagement, transition, and communication

Make sure the interventions link to your action plan and help you achieve your pupil premium objectives.
It should be a working document that's easy for you to update and easy for the school community to understand.

- Emmanuel Church of England (CofE) Primary School in Camden sets out in its pupil premium provision map how funding will be spent in 3 core areas: academic achievement, enrichment and engagement, and wellbeing
- Leicestershire's Little Hill Primary School's pupil premium provision map for 2018-19 also focuses on the same 3 key areas and provides an overview of provision, the pupils who'll be included and the cost to the school
