Your requirements

This policy is not statutory for schools, but it's good practice to have procedures in place so you can work effectively with your local authority (LA).

It's the responsibility of your LA to have a policy statement on its arrangements for providing education for children who cannot attend school because of health needs. The policy statement should be written and publicly accessible. This is explained on page 5 of the guidance.

This policy was previously listed as statutory for maintained schools, academies, free schools and independent schools in the DfE's guidance on statutory policies. This guidance was withdrawn in March 2024 and replaced by the governance guides for maintained schools and academy trusts. The policy is not included in either of the new lists.
