Your requirements
You must keep a register of business and pecuniary interests for governors (of maintained schools) or trustees (academies). This must be published on your website.
You can also ask staff to declare any conflicts of interest, but this is not a legal requirement. If you do decide to collect this information, it doesn't need to be published online.
A conflict of interest policy that covers staff will help you prevent any potential issues that might occur if a member of staff is:
- Related to a child in the school
- In a relationship with another member of staff
- In a position to benefit financially from any contract the school might enter into
It's not possible to provide an exhaustive list of potential conflicts of interest, but our model policy includes examples of the most common types.
