Our policy:

  • Has been approved by Forbes Solicitors and the NAHT union for school leaders
  • Is based on relevant requirements and good practice
  • Includes a form that staff members can use to make statutory flexible working requests

We recommend you consult with the unions represented at your school before implementing any new policy that refers to expectations of staff.

Updates to the model policy

We've made the following changes to our model policy, in line with the Employment Relations (Flexible Working) Act 2023. 

Section: Change: 4.1 Updated the eligibility for flexible working requests to: All employees (previously only those continuously employed for 26 weeks) A limit of 2 statutory requests within a 12 month period (previously 1) 4.2 Changed reference to 'COVID-19 lockdown to 'public
