All staff must consistently apply your behaviour policy
All staff – including early career teachers (ECTs), support staff and supply staff – must read and consistently apply your behaviour policy.
It's important to check all staff:
- Understand what the policy means in practice
- Apply it consistently across your school
Remember to explain how leaders take responsibility for consistently applying your behaviour policy, e.g. by modelling expected behaviour and supporting staff in responding to behaviour incidents.
The role leaders have in setting and maintaining high standards of behaviour is explained in the DfE's non-statutory guidance on behaviour in schools, pages 11 to 12.

Policy rules and expectations must be clear and fair
Keep rules clear by using language that’s detailed and easy to understand by everyone. For example, ‘wear the correct uniform at all times’ rather than ‘wear school uniform’.
