Schools use a variety of terms to describe their whole-school plan, including 'school improvement plan', ‘strategic plan' and 'school development plan'. Here, we use 'school improvement plan' (SIP).

Maintained school examples

Ardleigh Green Infant School in Havering includes key priorities for the EYFS in its SIP for the financial year 2021-22. These involve:

  • Implementing the new EYFS curriculum
  • Continuing to develop a consistent approach to assessment

Each key priority includes the context, intent, implementation, timescale, anticipated impact, action, budget, and the governors and staff members responsible.

The SIP also has a further space to monitor progress towards each of the school's targets. For example, the school provided internal training for its new EYFS team in autumn 2021.
