Pupil referral units (PRUs) and alternative provision (AP) academies are not subject to progress 8 floor standards. Read advice from one of our associate education experts on how PRUs can demonstrate that pupils are making good progress.

The floor standard does not apply

Pupil referral units (PRUs) and alternative provision (AP) academies are not subject to the progress 8 floor standard.

While a progress 8 score is calculated for PRUs and AP academies, this is only so it can be used in local authority (LA) and national data. 

The Department for Education (DfE) does not publish progress 8 data at provider level for PRUs or AP academies.

We were told this by a representative from the progress 8 team at the DfE.

PRUs and AP academies are, however, expected to demonstrate that their pupils are making good progress and that their needs are being fully met.
