Northamptonshire Council has published a guide to building an outstanding reading school (click the 'Research' tab to download the document). The guidance has an audit (page 18) which includes questions for staff on areas such as their:

  • Understanding of phonics, and how to use them to improve children's word-reading
  • Knowledge of children's books
  • Strategies to improve reading comprehension

The guidance also has questions for auditing parents' involvement, your school library, and how you're using books and other resources.
