1. Identify the needs of your school and your staff
Your CPD programme should be designed to meet the specific needs of your school and your staff, so think about what those needs are before you start.
School needs
Identify and review your school’s priorities, targets and goals using:
- Your school improvement plan (SIP)
- Subject action plans
- Any recommendations from Ofsted inspections or monitoring reports
- Findings from learning walks, lesson observations or staff meetings
- Emerging needs in the sector or your community – for example, an increase in pupils with English as an additional language (EAL) might mean staff need more relevant training
- Emerging needs at your school – for example, if a key member of staff is likely to retire soon and leave a skills gap, you may want to upskill other staff in these skills
