The data is taken from the 'teacher sickness absence' section of the DfE's latest school workforce in England data and from workforce data using the create your own tables tool.

To see for yourself, go to the tool then:

  1. Choose a publication: select 'teachers and school workforce' then 'school workforce in England'
  2. Choose a data set: select 'teacher absences', then click 'create your own table'
  3. Choose locations: select 'England' (under 'national')
  4. Choose time period: select the years you're interested in from the drop-down menu
