Are there sample interview questions for an executive headteacher? One of our associate education experts suggests interview questions for executive headteachers. For some questions, there is commentary on what interviewers should expect from candidates in their answers.

We asked one of our associate education experts, Jacqueline Baker, to provide a list of interview questions for an executive headteacher.

We have divided the questions she suggested into three sections: introductory questions, executive leadership questions and phase-specific questions.

This article was written to support interviewers with writing questions, and is not intended to help interviewees prepare for an interview.

Introductory questions

  • Why have you applied for this role?

This opening question tests whether the candidate is interested in, and enthusiastic about, the role. It also examines whether he/she has sound reasons for applying and has researched the multi-academy trust (MAT) or federation.

  • Describe how your career to date has prepared you for this role

The candidate should demonstrate that he/she has suitable experience and has been progressing towards executive headship.

The candidate should show that he/she is able to think ahead
