Our model family and parental leave policy is designed for you to adapt to suit your school’s or trust's context. It:

  • Has been approved by Forbes Solicitors and the NAHT union for school leaders
  • Is based on relevant requirements and good practice

Our policy includes sections on:

  • Maternity, paternity and adoption leave and pay (including for surrogacy)
  • Neonatal care leave and pay
  • Shared parental leave
  • Unpaid parental leave
  • Time off for dependants

We recommend you:

  • Use this policy alongside our staff sickness and absence policy
  • Consult with the unions represented at your school before implementing any new policy that refers to expectations of staff
