What is dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a lifelong learning difficulty that usually impacts a person’s reading, writing or spelling, as well as aspects of planning and organisation.

About 1 in 10 pupils in your school is likely to be dyslexic – and the same proportion of your staff and parents/carers.

Many people with dyslexia may not have a formal diagnosis, or even suspect that they are dyslexic.

Dyslexia is considered a disability under the Equality Act 2010, so it’s your school’s legal duty to make reasonable adjustments for the dyslexic people in your community.
