Adapt and deliver our staff training session
Use this presentation to train your staff on their responsibilities under the DfE's new guidance on restrictive interventions, including reasonable force and seclusion, effective from 1 April 2026.
The training slides are adaptable so you can personalise them to your school's context.
You'll cover:
- What restrictive interventions are, including reasonable force and seclusion
- What to consider before using restrictive interventions
- How to use restrictive interventions safely and lawfully, if staff need to use them
- Staff's roles and responsibilities, including your school's recording and reporting requirements
- How to use preventative strategies and de-escalation techniques effectively
This briefing can be delivered by your designated safeguarding lead, headteacher, special educational needs co-ordinator or another member of your senior leadership team.
The training should take around 1 hour 15 minutes to deliver.
