Use your judgement to decide:

  • If you need to carry out an EIA
  • What degree of internal and external consultation is required when reviewing a policy

You're not required to carry out an EIA, but you should make sure to consider equality when reviewing all your procedures.

Use an EIA to show ‘due regard’ for equality

You should consider equality whenever you make significant decisions or develop a policy or procedure in your school – this is set out on pages 30 to 31 of the DfE’s guidance on the Equality Act for schools.

You have to show ‘due regard’ for equality considerations as part of your Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED).
