Need-to-know: DfE launches consultation on draft update to relationships, sex and health education (RSHE) guidance

The update includes year group thresholds for teaching specific topics, as well as updated guidance on sharing curriculum materials with parents/carers, and additional content on new subjects including pupil wellbeing. Find out how and when you can respond to the consultation.

The DfE is consulting on proposed changes to its RSHE guidance for schools, following a review into the content by the DfE and an independent panel of experts. The updated guidance is currently in draft form and under consultation for 8 weeks. The consultation will close on 11 July 2024.

Anyone can respond to the consultation, so you may want to share it with your school community. 

Read the proposed guidance on the DfE’s website (select the ‘Draft RSE and Health Education statutory guidance’ towards the end of the page). Remember that this is a draft piece of guidance, so don't implement it or make any changes to your policies or procedures.

Once the final statutory guidance is published, you’ll have an implementation period which will give you time to make changes to your curriculum.
