There’s no requirement to use proformas

Progress in the EYFS is measured through 3 statutory assessments:

  • Progress check at age 2
  • Reception baseline assessment
  • EYFS profile assessment

Otherwise, there’s no set requirements for you to measure and record progress in any specific way.

However you decide to monitor progress in your setting, it’s important to remember that this shouldn’t lead to:

  • Excessive paperwork
  • A lot of time spent away from interacting with pupils

There's no expectation that you have to collect physical evidence to prove pupils' level of development.

This is explained in paragraph 2.2 of the EYFS statutory framework.
