Use different sheets for each location or classroom. IT departments may wish to keep their own registers to track equipment that moves around the school.

Follow your school asset management policy

This will help you:

  • Be clear about the procedures for the maintenance of your school inventory
  • Satisfy requirements for internal audit and disposing of assets

Maintain an up-to-date asset register

This is a requirement for both maintained schools and academies.

Maintained schools

You're required to submit the Schools Financial Value Standard (SFVS) to your local authority (LA) every year. 

The SFVS includes a business continuity or disaster recovery plan, which should include an up-to-date asset register (see question 8 of the DfE's checklist guidance).
