You have a duty of care to make sure pupils are suitably supervised and in a safe environment during school trips. To do this, you must be able to show that you've done all the necessary preparations before and during a school visit.
This is set out in the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and the DfE’s guidance on supporting pupils with medical conditions at school.
Ask parents and carers for up-to-date medical information
When seeking written consent for the trip from parents or carers, ask them to also provide:
- Up-to-date medical information on their child
- Details on what medication their child needs to take, if going on a residential trip
