You must provide management time to certain teachers

Under the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document (STPCD), a teacher with leadership or management responsibilities is, as far as is 'reasonably practicable', entitled to time for the purpose of discharging these responsibilities (see section 2, paragraph 52.6, page 51).

This time must:

  • Be a 'reasonable' amount
  • Take place during school sessions

It's referred to as 'management time'.

Any teacher who receives a teaching and learning responsibility (TLR) payment or who is paid on the leadership group pay range should be considered for management time, according to the teaching union NASUWT.
