Confirmation of the universal infant free school meals (UIFSM) funding rate for the 2024/25 academic year has been delayed due to the election. The allocations for the first 2024/25 payments have already been paid and were calculated using the 2023/24 academic year funding rate.

This is explained in section 2 of UIFSM: conditions of grant 2024 to 2025, published by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).

All reception, year 1 and year 2 pupils are eligible

This applies to state-funded schools. The school types covered are:

  • Maintained schools
  • Academies
  • Free schools
  • Alternative provision settings, including pupil referral units (PRUs)

When do we need to provide a meal?

To all eligible pupils Every school day Either in school or at another location where you're providing education (e.g. a
