Overview 

KCSIE is organised into 5 parts: 

  1. Safeguarding information for all staff
  2. The management of safeguarding
  3. Safer recruitment
  4. Safeguarding concerns or allegations made about staff, including supply teachers, volunteers and contractors
  5. Child-on-child sexual violence and sexual harassment 

Part 1: safeguarding information for all staff

All school staff working directly with children are expected to read at least this section. Staff who don't work directly with children on a regular basis can instead read a condensed version of part 1 (located in annex A).

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone's responsibility. No single practitioner can have a full picture of a child's needs, so everyone who comes into contact with them has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking prompt action.

Staff should at all times consider what is in the best interests of the child.
