Check what your board would like you to include
There are no statutory requirements for what the report should include. You need to provide enough information to help your governing board fulfil its responsibility to keep the school safe for staff, pupils and visitors.
Where there are potential health and safety risks, your governing body needs assurance that:
- Appropriate corrective action is being taken
- Learning is being shared
- Improvements are being put in place
This is explained on paragraph 7.4 of the maintained schools governance guide and paragraph 7.6 of the academy trusts governance guide.
Ask your governors to specify a format for reports before you produce them, so they don't later ask for formatting changes.
