Changes to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework will apply from 1 September 2021. Download our summary sheet to compare and contrast the changes with the existing framework, and read about the changes to assessment and moderation.

What's happening, and what do we need to do?

The EYFS framework is changing slightly from September 2021. This new EYFS framework will be valid from 1 September 2021. 

This article summarises the differences between the new and old frameworks, and is based on this guidance as well as the outcome of the DfE's consultation on these changes. 

There's also a new version of the Development Matters curriculum guidance, which isn't compulsory but the DfE recommends using it alongside the new EYFS framework. 

You must implement the changes from September 2021

The only thing you need to do right now is get your head around the changes as you plan to implement them from September. 

Continue to use the current EYFS framework until the end of August 2021. By September, make sure you've reviewed your policy in line with the changes.
