Help your governors to access the information they need
Your governors should provide support and challenge around trends on absence and attendance. This is set out in paragraph 78 of the DfE's guidance on working together to improve attendance.
There are no statutory requirements about what you should include in a report to governors on attendance. But as an executive leader, it's your job to give your board all the information it needs to hold leaders to account for your school's attendance rate.
Agree on the scope and format of the report with your governing board. This avoids governors later asking for changes to the formatting of a report.
If your board has access to GovernorHub, signpost them to our resources to help them evaluate your school's absence and attendance figures and understand the role of governors in improving attendance.
It's best practice for school and trust
