Checks on governors

Ensure the following checks are carried out:

• Identity check
• Enhanced DBS check
• Barred list check (for those who will be in regulated activity)
• Section 128 check* (these aren't a requirement for non-maintained special schools, but it is good practice)
• Check to establish the person's right to work in the UK
• Further checks on people who've lived or worked outside the UK if a DBS check is not sufficient to establish their suitability

* For local governors in academy trusts, this check is required where the local governing body has been delegated any management responsibilities. ** If you're in an academy trust, it's not a requirement to include local governors on your SCR, but it is good practice.The
